Steve, Unless you get an error along the lines of "the service cannot be controller in its current state" the server is still doing what it is supposed to do. What you are doing is the equivalent of hitting your friend in the face with a brick while he is having a conversation with the boss. Not generally a good practice. The services applet "hangs" while attempting to stop the services (usually the info store) and we usually need to give it the "fickle finger of fate" (i.e., tap the power button) to get it to cycle. Are you saying that you were shutting down the services, you didn't get any error messages while the services were stopping; you just didn't want to wait any longer, so you powered the box off? This is a follow-up to my earlier message, at some point after my email, outlook failed to connect to the server for everyone in the site. The only way I could quickly restore the service was to reboot the server, as stopping the services one after the other was taking too long. This problem occurred in the past and the only way to resolve it was a reboot. Please your advise is required to resolve the problem as rebooting server is not a permanent solution. I have checked the event viewer there were no error messages, which other log can I check. Thanks With best regards Sabi Kassim-Momodu User\Network Support Analyst This email and any files transmitted with it are confidential and intended solely for the use of the individual or entity to whom they are addressed.
