The answer, of course, is C. (yes, I'm giving it away. I'm feeling generous today. Hopefully I'm generous and right. <g>)
C isn't a horrible answer and it does meet the requirement. If I'm swapping out tapes each night and don't have enough space on a tape for all the databases, but do have enough space for half the databases and the incremental log files from the whole storage group, then I can get logs cleared every night. Otherwise, the fact that two of the databases are not backed up on any given night means the logs never truncate. It does appear that a software improvement could be made such that a checkpoint could be stored for each database so that log truncation could take place (albeit less aggressively than if all the databases were backed up together), but then I think there are more important problems to solve (like, what's the next transender question?). For those of you who went to MEC, but didn't stick around for the last session slot when Laurien Burchall discussed database internals, you missed a great session. The offline Q&A afterward was also quite informative. ======================================================= Andy Webb [EMAIL PROTECTED] www.swinc.com Simpler-Webb, Inc. A seems to be the least likely of any of the possible answers. B can likely be discounted because Microsoft thinks everything can be solved through software, leaving one to choose between the almost equally bad answers of C & D. > -----Original Message----- > From: John Q Jr. [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] > Sent: Monday, October 14, 2002 4:27 PM > To: Exchange Discussions > Subject: Re: E2K question > > > Because if you had circular logging enabaled it would prevent > the purging of the logs.
