OK, not to be flippant, but of course. The problem is that you and I may
have personal ethics, but not everyone out there does. I have run into a
HUGE number of people in this industry that have absolutely no ethics. The
problem is that those people and people like you and I are lumped into the
same category, "IT people".

This has a TREMENDOUS impact on you and I as ethical people in this
industry. Without a governing body, we have no way to get rid of people
that have no ethics. Doctors and lawyers do this all the time. They expell
people that do not follow the rules and revoke their license to practice.
Without a professional governing body, there is no recourse.

I am not saying that a professional governing body will fix all the ills
of this industry, but it is a step in the right direction. Every single
ethical person in this industry has a tremendous stake in where this
industry goes and how it matures. To leave it to the vendors and unethical
is a mistake that we will pay for throughout our careers.
