Thanks everyone for your valued opinions and recommendations of black lists.
I'm going to give black lists a try and use a tag-only option initially.  If
I get reports of false positives, I'll know that black lists will not work
for me.

Trend Emanager.  Don't get me wrong, subscribing to a Black List alone could
have a major impact on the outcome of SPAM blocks and actual valid mail.  We
have our messaging system learning the points, addresses, etc as well as the
X-SPAM STATUS.

I too agree to some extent of other re:'s, and had a few dealing's with them
myself, but as the question was just about "Recommended Black Lists" and not
how to make use of you topology to prevent SPAM.
