0) Get your card name, either from windows_bug_inside (see 1), either in your
PC doc, or on the chips of your card
0.5) Read /usr/src/linux/Documentation/sound/*
You need to have installed the kernel sources ...
1) If you own zindoz, get your parameters for the sound card from Config Panel
(I wonder what is it exact name in english version of zinbug) then in System,
....
2) Try these parameters with sndconfig
Note: only try SB if you really own a sound blaster really made by creative
labs. There are really little cards compatible with the sb on the *hardware
side*.
Le WSS driver (zindoz sound system) is the driver which manage the greater
number of snd cards.

3) If sndconfig fail to get your snd card work, try to configure your BIOS for
a non plug&play (pry?) os ("pnp os: no") if possible
It's possibl with award and ami bioses
4) At boot time, the bios'll display the sndcards parameters.
Write down them for sndconfig
##################################################################################
5) If sndconfig keep not work, try isapnp:
"pnpdump -c > /etc/isapnp.conf"
Exec "isapnp /etc/isapnp.conf" to initialize the ISA pnp cards (which'll be
magically done on next boots)
If sndconfig doesn"t work, try alter the parameters of /etc/isapnp.conf
##################################################################################
8) The experts could try compile a kernel in order to compile the driver in
kernel, not as module
##################################################################################
7) There is an alternative to OSS/free (the snd driver of Linux) : ALSA
(Advanced Linux Sound System) (http://www.alsa-project.org/)
You'll have to compile the driver, the libs and the utils in order to get it
work.

9) Try OSS/Lite (http://www.opensound.com/ ,
http://www.4front-tech.com/ossfree , http://www.opensound.com/download.cgi).
It has a good detection utilities but it's not free. OSS/Lite is only
availlabel for last kernel and works only during 4 hours (after that, you need
restart it with sndoff/sndon)
Note: OSS/Lite work with quite a lot of cards, in fact nearly all ...
The commercial version cost 20$. You'll get updated version up to the 4.0 (for
information, the 3.9 is progressing for years)
Only buy it in desespear

* man-pages: isapnp pnpdump modprobe insmod depmod

Note: 'cat /proc/sound' and 'cat /dev/sndstat' enable to verify
that there is a sound driver working ...

If your sound card is realy NOT supported under Linux, mail the card
manufacturer. Some firms develop some drivers.
Else, ask for another card (a supported one of cours !) and protest for they
deny the existence of the linux community (12 millions users).
If there is enough protestation, they should write a driver ...
Last but not least: never forget that the best solution does be check that the
hardware is supported before buying it (whatever is the os), either from the
manufacturer, from friends, from the hardware-HOWTO or from
