Hi Axalon;

Yes.. you suggested this last time I wrote, but as I mentioned last
time, I had done no recompiling of the kernel..just a plain old install.
As well many of the posts I have seen on Deja etc...are from people who
I doubt messed with the kernel, just people who installed and had xfs
bomb.

It has also been suggested to just go to Mandrakeuser and it will
explain how to fix your fonts..

but is not the issue here that "xfs" is dead??
and "can not establish any listening sockets"?

the error mentioning the font really is because of the lack of
listening sockets..

so regardless of font...it can't serve them up..correct?
or am I missing what xfs does??

As upon checking its status I get...

/etc/rc.d/init.d/xfs status

"xfs dead but subsys locked"

Now I have tried starting, stopping and restarting xfs as people have
suggested only to be left with this error.

xfs: can not establish any listening sockets

In my case I did not change the font type or size or recompile the
kerneI, I changed nothing and it stll bombed xfs and left me with a
machine that says..
"can not establish any listening sockets"

Not being an expert and not having any solutions offered that worked..
reinstall was the only solution for me, to turn my beige paperweight
back into a workstation. :-/

- good luck Jerald -
