I asked around at the lug last night and got a couple of suggestions.
1. check in Fdisk and see if you can repair the mbr there. (this isn't for
the faint of heart)
2. check in Fdisk to make sure that the correct partition is actually the
one that is listed as bootable. if / is on hda1 and hada2 is the bootable
for example that may be the problem, or none of them may be listed as bootable.
3. drop back format and punt. ( notice large grin came from all who
said this )
4. some said you may have to build a kernel and force lilo that way. Also
some suggested that your rpm of lilo could be corrupted and that building
it from src may be the answer.
