This may very well be solely a hardware problem. I have heard that there
are. now and then, some HDD's or processors that are just not compatible
with Linux. I've heard Celeron chips sometimes have trouble with Linux,
and then there are some HDD's that are equally as troublesome. Western
Digital comes to mind. This is partially the reason folks have so much
trouble with laptops. For the most part PC makers are still reading the
HCL for Windows machines and haven't yet taken to seriously loading
machines for Linux when it comes to hardware.
I know I've jumped in sort of at the end, but I have been watching this
thread for a little while. It sounds very much like there could be
something inside Mandrake 7.1 that just doesn't like your hardware. So
that leaves me with one burning question. I've seen and used Mandrake 7.0
and I'm now using 7.1. THere isn't a lot of difference between the
two. Why the need to switch from 7.0 to 7.1? If 7.0 was working for you
why not stay with it?
