Well, if it's losing blocks weekly, it *has* died.  :)  As I understand it,
hard drives keep a reserved number of "extra" blocks to automatically
replace bad ones that occasionally pop up, and if you're actually starting
to show bad blocks, it means it's run out...

Unless you don't care anything about the data on that computer, I would
really suggest an upgrade.
