According to Mandrake, they only patch for udma66, reiser and security (they don't say what security, but it's not the openwall patches). As far as I know udma is only official in the 2.3.x and 2.4.0 test kernels. Just check in the directory to see what versions have patches available. > >P.S. What problems are you having with samba ? If you use a loadable modules kernel (like the mandrake supplied one) then you would only need to compile the new driver and maybe run depmod. As far as I know, Mandrake and Slackware are the only distros which ship with udma by default, and all distros will be the same with regard to building kernels (download, untar, patch, make config/menuconfig/xconfig, make modules, make modules_install, make dep, make bzIMage etc...). Of course, there might be some nice tools for keeping you config files, automatically applying pathces, and doing the whole build for you .... but those would run on any system. Does anybody know what distro Linus runs ? (or does he compile everything from source ;-)) Buchan > Thanks, > Bruce > > > > __________________________________________ > Bruce LaZerte > Grandview Lake in Muskoka > Ontario, Canada > > ------------------------------------------------------------------------ > Keep in touch with http://mandrakeforum.com: > Subscribe the "[EMAIL PROTECTED]" mailing list. -- |--------------------------------------------------------------| Buchan Milne Mechanical Engineer, Network Manager Cellphone +27824722231 email mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Centre for Automotive Engineering http://www.sun.ac.za/cae South Africas first satellite: http://sunsat.ee.sun.ac.za Control Models http://www.control.co.za |----------------Registered Linux User #182071-----------------|
