You need bzip2, all the rpm-3.0.5, and I believe I had to --force and/or --nodeps to get a few packages to go in. The files I downloaded are .tar.bz2 and I am still waiting for the last few to finish before I try to enter KDE2 again.. I also needed bison, menu, mandrake_desk, and a ton of other packages. We'll see this evening! -----Original Message----- From: Leopold Palomo [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Tuesday, October 17, 2000 6:14 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Re: [expert] Is kde2 only for mkd 7.2? Oh, oh, oh. It seams that have been a controversial thread.... Well, I think that I was a bit bare in my message. Dear Mark Polsen, thanks for your answer, but I have read the file README file at ftp://ftp.kde.org/pub/kde/unstable/distribution/2.0RC2/rpm/Mandrake/README and of course that it says that the only dependency problem is Mandrake_Desk and menu. But, if you want to install menu, it says: [root@hoth kde]# rpm -i menu-2.1.5-41mdk.i586.rpm error: failed dependencies: rpm >= 3.0.5-22mdk is needed by menu-2.1.5-41mdk libbz2.so.1 is needed by menu-2.1.5-41mdk And after to trying to install install rpm-3.0.5-26mdk.i586.rpm, [root@hoth kde]# rpm -i rpm-3.0.5-26mdk.i586.rpm error: failed dependencies: libbz2.so.1 is needed by rpm-3.0.5-26mdk menu < 2.1.5-29mdk conflicts with rpm-3.0.5-26mdk So, I'm sorry, but I'm not very happy. Warren Doney has written a good link at: http://virtualartisans.com/linux/mandrake/ Thanks Warren, I have looked it, and I will try to follow all the points. Alexander Skwar, I'm sorry, but my poor level of english do that I don't understand this sentence, >> What's holding you from fullfilling all the requirements? so, please, what does it means?? GrAnT GaLbRaiTh have writen a interesting mail. Ok, but you have installed the mdk 7.2 beta, and I not. It's not the same version. However, I will try to force to install it, and trace all the dependencies. And in another mail, Alexander Skwar said: >>So? You want the latest, you need to install the latest. Those >>dependencies are in there for a reason! I don't think that it's a correct position. With Gnome it was very easy (more or less) to install it. Why not with kde? There are a lot of differences between rpm 3.05 and the package of the mdk 7.1?? Well, I finish, thanks to all for all the messages. I would like that the mandrake team pay attention in this class of things. Best regards, Leo -- Leopold Palomo Avellaneda Linux User 152692 Catalonia
