That is exactly what my problem was Andy...I had the USB disabled in
BIOS and thought it was dead....but that did not drive a stake through
the heart of the USB controller and it still sucks the life from the
modem....
I cured my conflict by moving the modem card to a different
PCI slot and that gave it a different IRQ, then I just adjusted the
setserial line and whahoo! the modem works....
Moving the card did not effect the old W95a os that I also have... it
just changed to a new IRQ along with everything else...and now the
modem works in both op sys. the Bios is set to non plug and play OS.
with the modem conflicting with the USB it will always give a "modem
is busy " error.
I dont know anything about the rewire for 8bit?
