I tried the Ximian Gnome install too; it was hard to do because the d/l of
the files using their automated installer kept hanging and needing to be
restarted. Once I had everything d/l'd and installed, I made the ?mistake of
telling it to keep my current login manager (kdm); when I tried to relog in,
neither gnome nor sawfish were in the choices for desktops.
I also tried d'l'ing just Evolution to install just that (I have all the base
gnome libraries installed from the original MDK install, so I figured I had
the support libraries I would need, but was put off by the negativity of the
install README, so I decided to bail and wait until version 1.0 comes out.
On thing I do note, though, is when I log in to gnome from kdm, I do seem to
have sound ...
