I've been using the 2.1 beta and find Konqueror and Kmail very solid -- in 
fact, Kmail has never even hiccuped (even with mail folders containing as 
many as 6,000 messages). Konqueror still has minor rendering problems, but it 
being worked on agressively and each release shows great improvement.

KWord is definitely not ready for prime time, IMHO. However, a new text 
widget (originally planned for Qt 3) is being backported for Qt 2 and this 
apparently will give KWord a real boost. Here's an article that talks about

I can't help with the printer problems, except to note that there have been 
many recent changes to CUPS. Mandrake's printer person reads this list and 
has been very responsive to problems reported here. I'd suggest a single post 
to the list with something specific about your printer problem in the subject 
line.

KDE in general is much improved in 2.1, but it probably won't help much for 
word processing.
