Dear friends:

I found out from the KDE web site that the best Java (J2RE) for KDE 2.0
(and, I assume, KDE 2.1) is NOT the SunJava 1.3.0 nor the IBM Java but
the one from Blackdown. So, I downloaded the JRE 1.3.0 file from

http://www.blackdown.org/

Specifically, the file j2re-1.3.0-FCS-linux-i386.tar.bz2

from

ftp://metalab.unc.edu/pub/linux/devel/lang/java/blackdown.org/JDK-1.3.0/i386/FCS/

This is a bz2 compressed file. The way to uncompress it, as I learned
from the bz2 site is:

bunzip j2re-1.3.0-FCS-linux-i386.tar.bz2

The file uncompressed successfully.

I then opened Konqueror, both as root and user, configured the Java
under Settings, Browser to detect java automatically. As root, it seemed
to detect it and started with a message "Loading" but then stopped.

Question 1: Where in the world is the Blackdown j2re directory. I've
looked everywhere to find it and have failed. It's there but where,
please?

Question 2: How can I make Blackdown's Java work in Konqueror (KDE 2.01)

Thank you all so very much.

Benjamin
