now in somedir of ample size do
tar xpvf  j2re-1.3.0-FCS-linux-i386.tar

do a ls and see what you have

istr needing to set something in the environment

for bash ie export JAVA=/somedir/what_you_got _from_ls_dir

check the README/INSTALL files for the correct names
