If you followed the kernel upgrade procedure from the Mandrake update
page *and* you had Grub as your default bootloader, then the problems you
describe would be expected. If the above conditions apply, then post or
email me the listing of your /boot directory, as well as your
/boot/grub/menu.lst file. The "unable to mount root partiion" and
subsequent kernel panic suggest a Grub problem; I got many such messages
until I got the Grub syntax and /boot symlinks just right. The 2.2.19
kernel was just fine. I also have /boot as ext2 and all other partitions
as Reiserfs.
