Why not just set Mandrake update to popup a kernel and alsa warning and not
upgrade if the package starts with "kernel..."  or "alsa...." that shouldn't
be that hard at all...

even if it still downloaded it, but was not setup to upgrade if the packages
start with that....

Both Vincent and I read it, and we have requested such a change.  Whether it
actually gets done is up to the developers of MandrakeUpdate.
