Mandrake 8.1 was the easiest Linux installation I've done yet. I was amazed at how many things 'just worked'.
Mandrake 8.0 was a disaster for me though, because I was installing on a Thinkpad 600E and they had all sorts of problems with it. I think installations are hit-or-miss because they are so hardware dependant. If you get lucky, then you say 'Wow, this is the best installation yet'. If you don't, then you say 'Mandrake 8.1 is a piece of crap'.
