MDK 7.2 was the first version of mandrake that i had too, before it
was RedHat 6.x series. Mandrake 7.2 has to be by far the best OS i
have seen till now. Esp since i am newbie.

hmmmm, after MDK 7.2 it was MDK 8.1 beta 2 on my system which was a
bit buggy, but then there is a part for us to live up to and report
these bugs, to mandrake. This is what i did and to their credit i got
a swift response and the final release i.e. MDK 8.1 works fine on my
rather shabby system.
Celeron 666 Mhz, Jetway 618 Mobo based on the intel 815e chipset, 40
GB + 4.3 GB hdd both seagate, 384 Mb ram PC133, 56x acer CDROM drive
and ATI all in wonder display card with the RAGE 128 processor. The
sound is on board.

sounds like the mandrake that i know. also mandrake supports a large
number of filesystems which makes it much easier to access your data
from other non linux partitions.

did you use the 3 cd set for the installation ? perhaps if you could
be more specific about the problems you faced someone on this list may
be able to help out. if you downloaded the iso images, is it possible
the iso images were corrupt ?

the installation process worked just fine for me. like i said before
if you find a bug please submit it to the mandrake guys, or post it to
this list. just ranting will not get you anywhere. I know you are
pissed, but then lifes a bitch so if it doesn't work, fix it. If we
could, we would love to help you out.
