I think this is your problem. I run StarOffivr all the time on Solaris.
We never start it by rinning anything from the few files that get put in
our home directories.

Try this which Mark Weaver suggested earlier:

actually I think it's just /usr/local/Office52/program/soffice (no /bin)

I usually have /usr/local/Office52/program in my path. so I just type
'soffice'.

As for the KDE stuff... I don't know KDE but on CDE, SO ads an Icon to
the front panel at the bottom of thescreen that will start SO.
