Yes, there is trouble when installing distro with kernel 2.4.3 (MDK 8) or 2.4.8 (MDK 8.1) on AIC 7xxxx adapter. I've got the same trouble on my Intel C-440GX+ board.
To overcome the problem, when you install it, don't boot your compie from installer CD. Make boot floppy (use rawrite or rawrite for Win from your MDK CD1) and use kernel image 2.2.19.
