I've never had a problem installing mandrake 8.0 or 8.1 (or any mandrake
from 6.x) on any of our SCSI adaptors from Adaptec.
(Range from aic7880 to aic7899) (we pretty much have from 40MB/sec cards
too 160MB/sec cards).

The high end stuff is on the MB (Dell poweredge). The low end stuff is
pci card.

The low end had problems once but after a scsi bios upgrade never had a
problem again. Scsi bios for our aic7880 is 2.20.0 with 2000 date.

might want to give that a try.. but be carefull... if you do it wrong
your MB may be screwed (or the pci card if it's not built in). I'd call
adaptec to make sure that you get the right bios upgrade...
