This is pathetic. The main problem/complaint with the original StarOffice was its size with all apps packed into one superapp. Very slow to start up initially but not so bad once started. Now, the whole big monolithic thing has been split into individual apps but it really is no faster starting now than it was when it was all packed together. I don't know what the ultimate value/point of separating everything if it makes no difference in loadup speed. Now, it just seems that all the component parts are slow instead of one big megapart. Unfortunately, I can't just use Koffice because it doesn't handle word files very well and kchart is still virtually useless (I need starcalc in combination with starchart to graph/plot data and kchart truly sucks). Gnumeric's associated charting app is worse than kchart. Basically, I have only found staroffice fully capable of handling what I need to use it to do. For REAL writing where I need to cite sources, have a reference page, I use lyx because NO other linux wordprocessor existing or in development can handle do/citations.
I'll pay for StarOffice 6.0 if it is stable and works as well or better than 5.2. praedor --- Ken Thompson <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > On Saturday 09 March 2002 01:32 pm, you wrote: > > On Sat, Mar 09, 2002 at 10:55 -0800, Deryk Barker > wrote: > > > Thus spake Praedor Tempus ([EMAIL PROTECTED]): > > > > I would DEFINITELY go with StarOffice.
