Therein is the trouble. Are you saying that machine 2 (windows box) has a public ip address? From your original post, I concluded that the linux box is the router. Is your linux box the gateway server, and is it running NAT for the other machines? If your linux box is the machine connected to the internet, serving as a router/gateway, then your other boxes (private machines) should be on the same subnet i.e. 192.168.0.0/24 (that would be netmask 255.255.255.0). Why can't you set up the interface device (eth0) on the windows box to have an ip in the 192.168.0.0/24 netblock range? This is what you must do for it to work with the gateway/router box... -- J.
