Hi,

As suggested by Mikko, I have tried running modprobe emu10k1 but it is not
loading the module because it cannot find the device:

----------
# modprobe emu10k1
/lib/modules/2.4.19-16mdk/kernel/drivers/sound/emu10k1/emu10k1.o.gz:
init_module: No such device
Hint: insmod errors can be caused by incorrect module parameters, including
invalid IO or IRQ parameters.
You may find more information in syslog or the output from dmesg
modprobe: insmod
/lib/modules/2.4.19-16mdk/kernel/drivers/sound/emu10k1/emu10k1.o.gz failed
modprobe: insmod emu10k1 failed

this is what syslog says:
Nov 4 15:58:23 hulk kernel: Creative EMU10K1 PCI Audio Driver, version 0.19,
18:47:01 Sep 20 2002

and dmesg:
Creative EMU10K1 PCI Audio Driver, version 0.19, 18:47:01 Sep 20 2002
---------

During the installation Mandrake said to run sndconfig after complete
installation of the os. By looking around I found that in /etc/modules.devfs
the following lines are commented out. Is this normal?

# Soundcard
#alias /dev/sound sound-slot-0
#alias /dev/audio /dev/sound
#alias /dev/mixer /dev/sound
#alias /dev/dsp /dev/sound
#alias /dev/dspW /dev/sound
#alias /dev/midi /dev/sound

Also in /etc/modules.conf there are no lines for sound alias.

Anyone know what I should do? Is this a new soundcard architecture not
recognised by the kernel? Should I let Mandrake know about it?

Thanks
Andre
