I have a perfect 8.0 install that has everything working PERFECTLY !
I now have a 9.0 install that seems to also work perfectly. ( seems to so far that is ;-) )
But I couldn't get 8.2 to work on my "crappy hardware" ;-) ;-) ;-)
It's not the hardware it's the OS. Obviously , not ALL Mandrake versions work with all hardware configurations.
though some may not like this opinion, it seems to be a fact of life.
My 2 cents

James, several people have already said supermount's problems in 9.0 can be blamed on crappy hardware.
I have seen this excuse several times already, but i just
can't buy it. Mandrake 9.0 includes a kernel whose Supermount
does not work in my box. This would be, according to the many
people that say so, my crappy hardware's fault.
But why does it work OK with 8.2, then?
I would be more inclined to say "Mandrake 9's stock
kernel has bugs that arise only on certain kinds of
hardware" more than "it's a hardware related problem",
as the latter gives the idea that the hardware is to blame,
which it is not.
