Interesting and accurate thought... But I still hold to hardware,as a
possible source, only because the same box that has this problem had it
with 8.2 and 8.1 also.  (I didn't have it before that, it's a used
laptop btw) The boxes that aren't having problems all have cdroms or
cdwriters that are under 1 year old.  I can on my personal desktop
recreate the problem by putting in a 4 year old cdrom drive I own.  Yet
with the newer Asus CDwriter I've never had a lick of problems.  If my
thought is accurate it doesn't mean the hardware is bad per se but
rather that the kernel builders aren't accurately supporting legacy
hardware. Greatest problem is the fact that no author can ever test
beyond the hardware he/she has in front of him.
