Lorne, I don't think that opening Mandrake Control Center > Software

does it? I saw many complaints based on a lack of understanding that
they were available all at once, as opposed to using the separate
entries in the menu.

That is fairly accurate. Many times though I'll go into this gui and search for a file. If it doesn't show under installed, I have to close the remove, open the install, etc. Before you could do it all in one place. Just an annoyance is all. A lot of us felt it was a step backwards. Not as intuitive and not as user friendly.

I have primarily used the urpmi family of tools on the cli instead of rpmdrake for a some time as that seems to be quicker and more flexible, so I am not the one to advise how to use rpmdrake. However, you can open both the install and uninstall modules of rpmdrake at the same time (from mcc) and switch between them as needed with one click, as it took one click to switch modes in the previous gui. IIRC, the former rpmdrake even required that you re-enter the search term when you switched modes, so there doesn't seem to be too much difference in functionality wrt this feature.

But like others have said, it isn't democratic and you either like it or lump it. It is kind of weird though to have voting system and letting folks "think" they are shaping the direction of a product when really they aren't. IF the developers decide they want to implement an idea, then and only then does it happen. I think some folks get disgruntled. Myself included, but I'm getting over it. :) I just don't waste my time voting anymore and for the most part sit and watch. Somehow I found myself hitting reply tonight damnit! Must be the beer. hahaha
