I'll buy Gentoo not being the best thing since sliced bread :-) It
looked to me like they're just adding some lines to the startup script
defining relationships though, which isn't bad. Akin to chkconfig in
fact. 

But I don't think SysV init is that bad -- not compared to FreeBSD 4.1,
for instance, which put my head into tailspin. The hardware detection /
devfs stuff in Mandrake is black voodoo too.
