I'm sure they pointed at a section in the second paragraph of E.9 which says:

"The sidepod(s) shall be closed across the front except for air duct openings to heat exchanger(s), but ALL ducted air shall pass through those exchanger(s)."

While this is the "Rule" of the law the spirit is addressed two sentences later which should overturn this rule if appealed.

"The purpose of these rules is to eliminate the use of "ground effects" to achieve aerodynamic downforce on the vehicle."

Later in this paragraph it also says:

"It is not permitted to duct air through any part of the body work for the purpose of providing aerodynamic downforce on the car."

Therefore it is not a stretch to read that you are allowed to duct air for other purposes.

Maybe we need to simply have that first quoted sentence above stricken from the FCS since the last sentence quoted addresses the actual reason for the law.

Charlie,

Did the tech inspectors explain where in the rules your ducts are forbidden? Lots of F500s have ducts in the sidepods and/or body that serve functions other than directing air to the radiators.

F500 Constructors or anyone else - is there something in the rules I'm forgetting?
