Art, I quess you were just joking about QRE. :->

The Stinger with its 4-link probably predated any other factory 4-link cars. It apparantly came with a 4-link with the secondary ahead of the motor and had a chapparall in it.

There were also a number of Z-19s and Red Devils that were converted in the 1980's to 4-link.
Nothing innovative nor difficult about it.

Not that anyone would care, but I was probably one of the first people to realize that KBS had antisquat on one side and squat on the other with the 2-link on the LHS and RHS belt/arm arrangement. That setup still has at least one advantage over a 4 link since it has consistent belt tension and allignment in roll.

The KBS RHS geometry actually could have been changed by moving the single chassis pickup point to match the 2 link instant center on the LHS. Could have had the same geometry as a 4-link.

Don't know why Mike Kierns did it the way he did except maybe as an attempt to tune the chassis more to the usual clockwise-run US tracks. People like Chico who drove both versions say they could not notice any differnce at all-so who knows?

The 4-link is probably cheaper to manufacture and maintain since no special RHS castings or fabrications are required

QRE is responsible :-) for the 4 link. How fast we forget :-).

KBS probably did not pioneer the 4-link and secondary ahead of the motor
arrangement in F440. The brand name escapes me now but these cars were
already old garage displays in 1989 and used the motor that the Kawasaki
replaced. Jim Elder's dad had one up on a shelf in his garage in West Palm
Beach.
