Chuck Maybe think of it using aircraft terms. At top speed with no acceleration ( steady state ) thrust avail. = total drag. Torque is not a factor in the speed. Now torque can have issues for aircraft but that's a separate animal. I think I understand your point that the torque is important, but only after it gets constrained by a time frame, hence the hp is the number that counts. But I know you knew this...... I can't imagine how gearing to the torque peak would result in the highest top speed. Dave Phaneuf
