John, the rule for mufflers has been waive by the NER SCCA. This also covers any National Tour or Divisional held in New England at our current sites. This was done because, if we didn't, many of the people that drove many many miles to get to Deven's would have had to go home after their first run. I will send you a few pictures of various setups. Mine was the first Solo II Rotax done for NE and as I have said, it is fugly. Geff Martone's is the second attempt and I guess I just picked the wrong muffler. When I have the money I will do one like his. But first I will try doing what Vern did!

WARNING .. SCCA RANT ALERT!
And, of course when it comes to mufflers, keep in mind that our incredibly inept SEB has still not approved an exhaust length past the rear axle that would include any kind of standard stinger or other muffler. This has only been an issue since 2002! What is that, 4 years???? So if you're going to run any normal stinger/muffler keep in mind that you're illegal, and if past penalties are an indication you will be unceremoniously bounced from the event .. no second chances. Just go home.

The SEB(solo events board) knows we REALLY use those mufflers for .. more horsepower! Yeah, they got it all figured out. How pathetic, how incredibly inept. But then I guess that club racing hasn't tackled this thorny issue either. I'm done now.

Jay that would be ok, but most of us in the real areas (New England) that are currently having the biggest noise problems still would like to see a 4stroke sled engine with CVT. Also, I thought it was mentioned that someone, maybe Aeen was working on a solution to keeping the noise down without having to ad a big car muffler to our cars. A small Dynamax seems to work on the newer 493 engine much better than the combination of my Flowmaster and Aeen singer on my 494! I don't know if Aeen has seen pictures of my setup, but it sure is fugly!

I am starting this thread to simply start a dialog on the subject of
alternative drive trains, so do not send the assassins.

I am of the opinion that we need a 4 stroke engine with a conventional
transmission for our class to survive. I would be happy with a 2 stroke
with a transmission but I do not think there is a production engine
available.

I am not saying that we eliminate the 500cc w/CVT combination, but only that
we have a competitive alternative engine that has a conventional 6 speed
transmission.

I say this because we need to generate lots of new interest in F500 or we
have a good chance of losing our national status in a few years.

Thanks ... Jay Novak
