John, >Are the Vees limited on the gearsets for their transaxles?
No restriction. >IMO disc brakes would help and probably allow them to make something like a 950 lb weight at the same time. I don't feel that giving Vees disc brakes is a problem. Question is, do they want them? As far as weight reduction is concerned, I don't know if they have explored that possibility. The older Vee's chassis' may not have the ability to reduce weight easily. But if it is realistically obtainable, a weight reduction would certainly be an option. >Rack and pinion probably wouldn't increase speed much but it would make the Vees nicer and give them another tuning tool. I wouldn't consider that to be a problem either but again, they must say that they want it. As mentioned, the Vees have not come together to decide which direction they wish to go. Once that is decided, getting there will be a whole lot easier :-). BTW, if rule changes (allowances) are what they want, we're talking about 2008, not 7. Asking the SEB and the BOD to consider 2007 rule changes at this late date would be a wildly speculative request. The biggest problem is that many of them I've spoken with don't want to have to spend any money to go faster. The second problem is that many of them feel it's a power problem (IMO far from the truth). I'll go out on a limb here and point out a few things that I observed at nats ... lots of vees that sit very high off the ground no 2 driver vees (a big issue this year) Scott Nardin (the leading Vee) tried a new tire setup on the first day that didn't work. His 2nd day performance wasn't bad when he reverted back to his known good setup. We should try to work with the Vee guys. First they must come to some kind of consensus, second they have to realize that it will cost some money, and third (IMO) motor ain't it. Are the Vees limited on the gearsets for their transaxles? If so opening up gearing rules might help. IMO disc brakes would help and probably allow them to make something like a 950 lb weight at the same time. Rack and pinion probably wouldn't increase speed much but it would make the Vees nicer and give them another tuning tool.
