The stock Kaw P/N gaskets have copper around the piston bore. I have some in
original bags.
I personally don't like the copper Kaw ones. They are the ones that always
had the most water leaks. I think that the copper compresses too much.
Past being relatively equal in thickness after torquing the head down, I
don't know what else anyone really needs to match up on any head gasket.
Most all aftermarket ones now have thin steel metal "fire bands" or O-rings
wrapped around the edges of the gasket material.
The road racers I learned from (like the Elliots) told me that reused their
head gaskets over and over as long as they didn't rip. They probably got a
little thinner everytime they reinstalled them and retorqued them.

You do need to make sure they match, in spec, with OEM. Otherwise they
are illegal.
This makes me wonder if most of you guys use the plain aluminum ring. I've
had more traditional looking head gaskets that have an aluminum ring but
they also have a gasket material that seals the coolant passages. I like
them much better than the plain ring which seem to leak like sieves.
