I had electric fuel pumps plumbed as you described on my car from 2001-2005 and still had to use the chokes.

Install it next to the fuel tank in a safe location so that it pushes the gas to the pulse pump (the high capacity version). Turn it on when the car is stone cold, it fills the bowls, turn it off, choke one carb and it fires. Use it as a back-up when the pulse pump is not doing it's job so that you can finish the race.
