I've had extremely good fortune with those Facet electric pumps. I have
discovered that when they die, they don't pulse no more. HOWEVER, with that
said: Those pumps are a bit like batteries, coils, and other components
with little or no moving parts. They may last five years..............or
five minutes.
The pulse pump is extremely simple and USUALLY begins to degrade before it
actually goes "ten toes up." I used one on the old Kawasaki (Zink Z-22) and
it never missed a beat. I also had one on my Chapparal powered Red Devil
(yes, I am VERY old) and it seemed to consume diaphragms about like I go
through paper towels. I was using a fuel filter but, in retrospect,
probably not one with the proper level of filtration. I'd find little specs
of dirt along with the pin holes.

Hell I have run the same one for four years on my Solo II car with a
Rotax! I know I am pushing my luck but I always have a least two spare
ones with me!

John,
You're not going to get 'one' right answer on this question. Fuel
delivery is configured at least a half dozen ways on as a result of much
experimentation. Some use electronic pump (4-6lb). Some use the diaphram
pump. Some use both. Some add a regulator in-line with the electric
pump. Some cars have a surge tank. I think part of the reason some
systems work better than ohters has to do with the pickup location in the
fuel cell. Most of the snowmobiles just have the diaphram pump. That's
what I've used for the past 4 years that I've been running the Rotax
engines. No electric pump. No regulator. No surge tank. I'm happy with
the way it works and the simplicity. Maybe I've just been lucky.

I've got an electric pulse pump that is nearly new and a
mechanical/vacuum pump. It strikes me as being a bit overkill. Could I
rely on just the electric pulse pump if I took out the mechanical? Or is
there some problem with over pressure with these like I think I read
somewhere?
