I know it is not everywhere but in NJ they have Lojack which does a good job of locating cars right away rather than hoping the stolen car is parked out in the open or happens to drive by. On-Star can do the same thing if a car has it. As far as crime goes suppose the car was used in a felony in CA and then sold. I believe the plates remain with the car. Unsuspecting new buyer is on his way home and gets stopped by the now infamous LAPD. Would they resort to extreme measures (beat down) if the poor slob objects? While I know there are security and other issues I still do not like the ever increasing erosion of our freedom by govenmental authority.
