Racing is something that either you want to do badly enough to find the resources necessary...or you don't and use cost as an excuse. I have to agree with Richard that once you have your car and trailer, Regional racing can be done on a very tight budget with one big caveat....DON'T WRECK THE CAR. It is not necessary to have fresh tires each weekend for Regional's they will last more than a normal Regional competition year...I got 8 National events out of my last set, and managed to win VIR with that set on their last race. Brake Pads will last the entire year. The big costs over and auto-x car is the potentially longer tow's to the events and the entry fees. Where there is a will...you will make the way.

Install Crankshaft in Kawi. Bill, I think you are missing the point. You can road race on a budget. I have, and will, do it. Yes the entry fees are more for road racing, but you can cut cost by: A. camping at the track - deduct the $150 per weekend for hotel fees. B. Use the same set of tires all season or two - they never wear out, just get hard. C. Run regionals only - they never check the fuel - buy ten gallons at the local gas station before you enter the track, you should have enough for a double race weekend. D. Bring food with you to the track from home - potato salad and hot dogs taste real good after a hot day at the race track. E. Just go to several double regional race weekends. You get the number of races under your belt in two weekends to keep your regional license.
