It appears that there are no new 493s available. In searching for a used 493, it seems that many sleds don't have electric start. Fortunately, electric start looks easy to add as is evident in this thread. I believe you also need to add a ring gear to the clutch.

But how about reverse? If one bought a 493 that didn't have reverse, would a new control unit be needed, or can you just add a harness I have seen described here? I read Jeff's post about needing different pickups. Can these be added to any 493 or is there something different about the castings? And does it depend on the year?

I saved the following list of 493 donor sleds posted by Jeff last July:

Which appears to be a superset of the following list from Jim Libecco in 2004

Formula DLX 500 2001
Legend 500 2002-03
Grand Touring 500 2001-03

But elsewhere, I read that Tony Murphy imported the 493 used in 1999. Are these lists complete?

The Ski-Doo starter with the solenoid piggy-backed is a very expensive part. The separate motor and solenoid are much less expensive, and probably lighter, depending on the starter motor you get. You can contact Q for a complete electric start system, or if you want to piece your own together, I'd still recommend getting the bracket from Q. The factory brackets are stamped steel and are known to crack. -Jeff B.
