Well, Mike tells us KC folks that the well prepared engines average around
110, but still claims he builds 128hp legal engines. Sounds like the
conversation he had with the MAC just might have been a little biased? I
firmly believe that 140 is obtainable with the proposed rule changes.

Ahhhhhh Bill, we did "talk" to Mike and he has told us that the current Solo Vee engines produce 110 HP on a good day. Is that good enough or do you wish
to argue with yourself? :-)

And, I won't take any offense about you thinking that we would consider him
"....some lame-ass bullshitter!"

Next :-).

Last time I checked, Mike Gray was considered one of the Nations top air
cooled vee engine builders. He has been an scca racer/engine builder for
30+ years, not some lame-ass bullshitter! I bet if you emailed him, he
would provide the dyno sheet for you. He does sell race engines for
something in the $5500 range, as I recall.

them)

buying 1938 design (VW parts) and you live with it.

Bill,

As I said to Bob, let's see the dyno sheets :-). If your buddy or Bob can't
produce them, it's only so much rhetoric and bravado :-). I think I'd put
more faith in the information garnered from a professional engine builder
over unsubstantiated claims.

A solo buddy of mine claims 128hp on his vee and has had no grenading in
2 years of solo. I for one have no problem believing him or the claim of
125hp for Mr. McDonald.
Bill Schmidt 88 RD Kawi ( I claim 66 hp ;(

>Also having been told that John McDonalds car, before he bought it, was
putting out 125hp,

Every professional VW engine builder that we had talked to in the past about
updating the 1600 engine would laugh at that figure for a currently legal
1600 engine in F Mod. Is there an outside chance that HP figure would be
available, yes it is possible, but it would be nothing more then a grenade
that would last a few minutes of run time and then explode in a crowd
pleasing display :-). Bottom line Bob, somebody told you MacDonald's car was
making that much HP. Without some dyno sheets to back that up, it's only
good bench racing talk :-).
