racers (I suggest we exclude autocrossers because their class status is not
in jeopardy and their interest are too divergent from road racers) to put

I think this is short sighted. F500/FM are one of the few class pairs
where the same car can compete in both autox and road racing. Getting
started in autox is a lot less daunting than getting started in road
racing, and would seem to be a natural place to recruit new blood to
the club racing side of things. Although FM isn't exactly where one
is likely to get started in autox, if you've been autoxing and want to
move "up", getting FTD at local autox events and having the option to
go road racing sounds like a lot more fun than competing in a slow
SM/DSP car.

In addition, anything that purports to be a "low buck" class really
ought to be autox friendly, since its by far the most "low buck" form
of racing there is. Heck for the price of the F500 safety equipment I
could autox FM for a year, including the tires.

Just my $0.02, but I think anything that the club racers do that
messes up the autox class will be detrimental to both.
