Very interesting Ed. I ran my wife's Corolla, now mine, for 10 years, then
went back to using Castrol. She is driving the new Altima. I have my 2000
Astro Van and the old Corolla for getting to work!
Also, still not feeling too good, will contact you next weekend!

Bobby
You might not want to fill the crankcase with Mobil 1 anymore. There was a
posting and thread on Apexspeed recently regarding oils and that the EPA is
forcing US mfgs to take certain metals out of the oils as they interfere
with the performance of the catalytic converters. Most of the posters were
highly experienced racer sand engine builders and they all werw going to
pure racing oils such as RedLine etc to avoid problems. ( Another reason
Apexspeed should be required reading daily. There is so much info from so
many famous and infamous racers on it on a myraid of subjects)

Chris you may be right, but like I said time will tell. The only thing I
know is if I could afford to have Small Fortune Racing build me a $56,000
DSR, it better come with a drysump system that hold a lot of Mobil 1! But
seeing that I haven't won the lottery yet, I will have to stay with my old
Zink and just enjoy what I have!

Bobby, it isn't a debate at all, it's fact. A drysump system is a better
system, period! It provides better lubrication and also creates more
power for several reasons. The debate is whether or not to spend the
money. The reality is that a good wet sump will keep the motor from
blowing up. The engine has plenty of power, so I know the class does not
need the dry sump. As a caveat, I would like to see an accusump used just
for the security...

Chris that is the big debate amoug people building DSR's at the moment,
but
if you are old enough to remember what happened in TransAm Sedan many
years
ago, my bet is the cost of a dry sump will pay off very quickly for these
guys. But the debate is still ongoing, only time will tell.

PS: Thanks for the link, always enjoy looking at different builders web
sites!

Bobby, talk to the guys at West Racing that build the DSR, they use a
Kawasaki 1000 that uses a billet oil pan, and the stock wet sump, no dry
sump pumps. Better yet look at the website. http://www.westracecars.com/

Ask Bill Gendron at Small Fortune Racing, the current builder of one of
the
newest and best built DRS in the USA!

The only reason why the pans HAVE to be replaced is because of the
clearance. The Microsprint guys ran stock pans and oil systems in all
the
Honda F2/F3 motors with no bottom end failures, and they run modified
alky
motors. The latest style road race motors use a very deep pan to prevent
oil starving when the bike is leaned way over...
There are several billet and modified stock pans that are available for
the 600 motors.
If you had no rule regarding oil systems, it would be to your advantage
to run a dry sump, they make better power.

I found this out from a M/C DSR driver:
One more cost to remember is that the stock oil pan HAS to be replaced
with
either a special pan or a dry sump ($$$) because the motor no longer
leans
over in the curves and the result is catastrophic oil starvation!!
Just add this to you total cost of owning a bike motor.
