Subject: Re: [F500] One More Cost to Consider for a Bike Motor

The only reason why the pans HAVE to be replaced is because of the clearance. The Microsprint guys ran stock pans and oil systems in all the Honda F2/F3 motors with no bottom end failures, and they run modified alky motors. The latest style road race motors use a very deep pan to prevent oil starving when the bike is leaned way over... There are several billet and modified stock pans that are available for the 600 motors. If you had no rule regarding oil systems, it would be to your advantage to run a dry sump, they make better power.

I found this out from a M/C DSR driver:
One more cost to remember is that the stock oil pan HAS to be replaced with
either a special pan or a dry sump ($$$) because the motor no longer leans
over in the curves and the result is catastrophic oil starvation!!
Just add this to you total cost of owning a bike motor.
