Thanks to everyone for responding, especially Jay. The DPDT switch would have worked, but thanks to Jay, I went back and ready the GCR section on master kill switch. One of the battery cables has to run through the switch, so the toggle is out and it's back to old faithful and the "aerodynamic" red key. Cory
We have used double pole, single throw switches for master switches for over 20 years including our last 2 new cars. We have never had a problem with tech locally or at the Runoffs. However this type of switch is NOT LEGAL if you have a battery in the car. If you have a battery in the car you must have a high amperage switch to disconnect the battery. These are typically the big red twist type master switches. Our cars are jumped with external connectors. Thanks ... You can wire them on opposite contacts so they will have opposite functions depending on the positions. With that being said - are the toggles still legal? I thought everyone had to move to the big red switches? The more expensive one from Pegasus includes 2 auxiliary switches, wired in opposite directions. Hope this helps. -Ted -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Cory McLeod Sent: Thursday, April 12, 2007 11:23 PM To: F500 Subject: [F500] HELP - master kill switch I have decided to use a toggle switch for the first time as the master kill on my new car, instead of the big switch with the red key. Is the correct designation for the toggle switch for this applications as follows: double pole / single throw with one circuit normally open and the other normally closed? I thought I ordered a switch with that spec from McMaster Carr, but when I wire it up, both circuits are on and off at the same time, not reversed like I need. Am I missing something? Also, can anyone tell me where they have bought the correct switch? Thanks, Cory --------------------------------- Ahhh...imagining that irresistible "new car" smell? Check outnew cars at Yahoo!
