This is the primary reason for the initial popularity of F1000.
One buys a used FF2000 for about $4K to 7k w/out drivetrain or buys a used car for about $11K and sells offf the drivetrain.

What one ends up with for about $6K is a car with carbon or alumimum wings front and rear, giant brakes and calipers, 13" magnesium wheesl, 4 adjustable gas shocks and -if you lucky you found a car with triple adjustable shocks.

Now you buy a MC engine and tranny, install it and go racing. You do not need a Quaife. Open or locked will do just fine.

The cost of converting a f500 might be comparable, but you end up with a funny non-mainstream looking car with no wings, baby 10" aluminum wheels, no shocks at all, no independent rear suspension, and significantly less HP with a 600cc motor.

Why would anyone want to convert a F500 to 600cc MC power when the starting point is about the same cost for the donor car and you end up with so much less of a car when you are done?

or comparing new to new, why end up with so much less of a car when you are through?

No wings, no shocks, no IRS, no 13" wheels, no real modern formula car look. Plus you have to race those smelly 2-strokes which will be all over you in the corners which you then blow in the straights.

Just musing, byt being ablre to drive on 13" radial tires, then learning to adjust wings and shocks are perhaps the main things a young lion needs to learn to drive the faster cars in formula or sports racing.
