Chuck, IMHO in the case of the F500 conversion, you end up with car you can
work on and tune without an engineering degree, that doesn't cost a million
dollars everytime you have an offroad trip, shock tuning, wing setups, tire
costs.
You're right though, you get a better bang for the buck the other way.

less of a car when you are done?
or comparing new to new, why end up with so much less of a car when you are
through?
No wings, no shocks, no IRS, no 13" wheels, no real modern formula car look.
Plus you have to race those smelly 2-strokes which will be all over you in
the corners which you then blow in the straights.
Just musing, byt being ablre to drive on 13" radial tires, then learning to
adjust wings and shocks are perhaps the main things a young lion needs to
learn to drive the faster cars in formula or sports racing.
