Adding rubber to the drivetrain only helps a little with respect to upsetting the chassis. Think of having a lot of belt clearance on your F500 with the clutch slaming in 5 or 6 times as you increase speed.

There is usually very little damping in drivetrain rubber, so it can also oscillate and get jerky like an Elan.

The main benefit of rubber mounting is so that you do not fatique the welds in your chassis from vibration or have the tach needle fall off.

It is also not clear that anyone would use rubber to mount a MC engine. I haven't seen much rubber in the conversions, but there could be.

Subject: [F500] Chuck and Jay: Dampening a MC motor in F500 Chassis
Date: Sat, 14 Apr 2007 11:42:10 EDT

Chuck and Jay,

Chuck earlier stated:
The manual tranny will be worse as one shifts and upsets the minimally
damped chassis.

If I remember correctly, most MC motors have rubber dampeners on their
mounting points to the MC chassis. I am hoping that these will be re-used in mounting the MC motors in F500 chassis. Hopefully, since the MC chain drive can tolerate deflections, the rubber dampening will help in the shifting shocks to the chassis and help with the general vibration of the MC motor (chassis
tubing cracks).
In a related side note, I know that Jeff Blumenthal uses rubber dampening in mounting his Rotax and I have been told over the years that rubber dampening of CVT motors is not a good idea because it misaligns the two clutches when the motor torques over. Yet, when I look at parts explosions of snowmobile sleds, I usually see rubber dampeners in the motor mounts, so which way is the
best the best way?

Curious,

Jim
