Jim,

I share your opinion about the final drive belt, however most likely our
tires will be cold or cool and will not have the grip that a hot tire will
have.  So it might work a time or two.

I used to think that standing starts would be dangerous, but in F1 and now
that the champ cars are using it, you really don't see any issues on the
start.  Now turn one is a different story.
